Title of entry: COVID-19 Vaccine Preparation Video
About this entry: As part of #TeamVaccine, pharmacists and pharmacy students at the University of Toronto’s Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy played a vital role on the frontlines of Toronto’s vaccine rollout by preparing thousands of COVID-19 vaccine doses at clinics throughout the city. As medication experts, our faculty mastered the vaccine preparation process early and saw an opportunity to share our methodology with other pharmacists and healthcare workers participating in vaccine rollouts globally.
To do this, the Communications team recommended we produce a ‘How To’ video highlighting each step of the vaccine preparation process. Written, shot, and produced in-house by the Communications team, the goal of the video was to translate a highly detailed process into a digestible format that was easily accessible and sharable.
Following launch on July 5, 2021, the video was shared as a training tool for healthcare professionals in Ontario. Moreover, with 189,000 views on YouTube in seven months, ‘How to Prepare the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine’ has spread internationally, with health professionals in Queensland, Australia using the video as part of a training package.
Producing this video not only provided our faculty with a platform to educate a larger healthcare audience about vaccine preparation, but also gave us a voice and platform to promote vaccine safety and combat against the spread of vaccine misinformation. The video demonstrated the leadership of the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy and our commitment to sharing best practices and educational tools to support the global battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
