Title of entry: Discovery: Research at Princeton magazine
About this entry: Princeton University’s missions of research, education and service are exemplified in the creative endeavors described in the pages of our annual magazine, Discovery: Research at Princeton. Published annually, the magazine highlights the University’s research advances, initiatives, and people across the disciplines in ways that fulfill Princeton’s informal motto, In the nation’s service and the service of humanity. The magazine is distributed to alumni, prospective undergraduates and graduate students, government representatives, regional officers, funders and more.
Our process involves collecting nominations for stories from our academic department chairs. We commission writers and photographers to create entirely new content for the majority of the magazine - the only sections that are not original are the "news briefs" (two pages) and the "faculty books" (two pages containing publishers' blurbs).
We co-mail the magazine with our alumni magazine to reach broad audiences. Roughly a third of our audience is in government-related positions and another third are entrepreneurs, many of whom are in a position to support research and innovation. We also mail the magazine to a mailing list of industry contacts.
