Title of entry: Homecoming 2021 Spinner Invitation
About this entry: Our Homecoming 2021 invitation needed to make a big impact, since the events were in-person after a virtual 2020. We wanted to do something that our alumni had never seen before, but that would ignite a sense of nostalgia and familiarity, even if campus had changed since their last visit. To do this, we chose to tie our modern homecoming back to the more than 150-year history of the college. This presented a challenge in how we could best feature various iterations of the campus and the mascot, while inspiring college spirit. The cover features a spinning wheel, which is an entirely innovative print feature that is both fun and functional. It efficiently shows iterations of our mascot, the Green Terror, on the cover, while the reverse of the spinner shows images of campus locations. Our classic colors, green and gold, complement the black and white images. The outer edges of the spinning wheel notes the time range and the location. We made the mascot a central theme, since all alums remember the Green Terror, and we included every version to connect with each generation. The project doubles as a Homecoming invitation and a timeline from past to present: archival photos of the mascot, and how it's changed over the decades, appear throughout the booklet with the event schedule.
