Description

Best of CASE District III Award

Institution: University of Georgia

Title of entry: UGA 60th anniversary of desegregation

About this entry: On January 9, 1961, two courageous students, Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter, took heroic steps on the University of Georgia’s campus to enroll as the university’s first African American students followed by Mary Frances Early, who entered graduate school that summer. This campaign was designed to commemorate the 60th anniversary of desegregation, to celebrate the enduring impact of the trailblazers who took those heroic steps, and to educate the public about their significance.

The campaign featured a mixture of events, stories, graphical assets, photos, and videos. Cumulatively, our outreach efforts represent an extraordinarily successful campaign, which not only commemorated the important contributions of three courageous students, but also helped to educate others about our institution’s history.
