Title of entry: Upward Bound: A Letter to My Younger Self

About this entry: The Upward Bound video was part of our Local Impact Campaign, and the goal of that campaign is to spread awareness of the work that UGA does within the Athens community. So through the campaign, we promote at least one story every month, we run ads, and this year we offered to produce 2 videos for the campaign, Upward Bound being the first one. One of the key messages of the campaign is UGA supports Athens-Clarke County students, and Upward Bound was a great example of that.

For this video we had a very tight timeline, so we wanted to approach it in a way that carried the perspective of Tavaria's experience with the program and how it shaped her academic career. We landed on her writing a letter to her younger self, to tell her story and give her motivation and reinforce her work-ethic and academic abilities. She was an amazing example of success and we wanted to highlight how she chose to give back and help high school students find and enroll in programs and scholarships to help them with their own journey into higher education.
