Title of entry: RCSI Alumni Magazine Cover
About this entry: The 2022 issue of the RCSI Alumni Magazine gives alumni a first look at the next phase of RCSI's campus development - a new medical and research building located at the very heart of Dublin city centre, at 118 St Stephen's Green.
The cover provides a glimpse of the future through a striking, modern and innovative graphic that was designed by artist Eoin Ryan, presenting the completed building as a cutting-edge development not only in terms of its historic Georgian surroundings but also as the next step in the evolution of RCSI, over two centuries, from a collection of disconnected buildings including a former Lazar House (leper hospital) to a modern campus, to the future RCSI Med District.
The figures to the foreground of the design capture the people-centred ethos of RCSI and 118 St Stephen’s Green as an urban hub radiating energy and vitality while simultaneously complementing the tranquillity of the Green it fronts onto.
The images are framed within a profile of Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, (also carved into the capstone of the iconic front entrance to RCSI, 123 St Stephen’s Green) thereby firmly linking the development to the centuries-old ecosystem of healthcare education and innovation.
A succinct cover line captures both the location and vision for the development as the first educational building on the Green in two centuries.
The impact is visually arresting and the overall effect is to pique curiosity and entice alumni to delve further into the contents of the magazine.
