Best of CASE District II Award
Institution: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey
Title of entry: Nine on Title IX
About this entry: The 1972 passage of Title IX, the gender-equality law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in educational institutions that receive U.S. government funding, had a profound impact on life in the United States. At Rutgers, it set off a chain reaction that continues to shape our very ethos.
Rutgers is home to many unique programs and experts on gender equality and has a long history of inclusion. Rutgers has housed one of the premier graduate programs in women’s and gender history for the past two decades, which is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. Rutgers also has many faculty who were directly affected by the Title IX decision.
With the 50th anniversary of Title IX in 2022, Rutgers Communications and Marketing (R-Comm) wanted to showcase Rutgers’ experiences on the topic with a package of stories that did justice to this monumental piece of legislation. And we wanted to do it by sharing the experiences of Rutgers’ faculty – nine on Title IX – who paved the way for women everywhere.
