Best of CASE District II Award
Institution: Columbia University
Title of entry: Columbia Engineering for Humanity
About this entry: What: With faculty and school leaders, former Dean Mary Boyce launched an inspiring new vision for the School, Columbia Engineering for Humanity focused on interdisciplinary research, education and impact. This video demonstrates how the Engineering for Humanity vision has since evolved and highlights its success.
How: We started exclusively with existing multimedia assets sourced from internally produced video features, lab demos, and external media coverage. Visual content is a mix of video, photography, typography, animation, simulation, and drone footage. We produced a script to outline the video and structure this footage, by adding it as a graphic narrative in bold typography.
Why: While we had an initial launch video for the announcement of Engineering for Humanity, the time had come to make a new one to show the impact manifested by this vision and to capture our engineers in action.
Results: A uniquely designed video whose visual narrative assembles over two dozen projects motivated by this vision, generated by students with faculty, in the context of our school, NYC, and the world at large.
Impact: Since launching in June 2022, the video has been featured across all our channels: homepage, social media channels, newsletter, and on-campus digital displays. It has served as a galvanizing video, at various events, for a wide variety of audiences, including our Board of Visitors, prospective students, new students, alumni, and beyond.
