Institution: University of Tampa
Title of entry: Dream World
About this entry: This cover for the Fall 2022 UT Journal introduces the feature "A Vu of the Future," which discusses the generous donation of an LED screen by Tampa-based virtual production company Vu and the tremendous impact it has on UT’s aspiring filmmakers, actors and tech hands.
Art Director Erin Dixon hired freelancer photographer Marc Vaughn for a full-day photoshoot. During the shoot, UT students from the Department of Film, Animation and New Media (FMX) created five movie sets to depict what the students could create with this amazing technology. The cover scene was re-created by the students from a film entitled “The Oracle” written by UT student Alyannah Esparza ’24.
When we saw this photo, we immediately knew it had to be the cover. It perfectly shows all that the LED volume brings to student filmmaking here on campus. The Tokyo landscape, clearly miles from Tampa, with the ethereal purples and blues and smoke coming up from the ground, captures the essence of what the screen can do — allow students to make films that are only limited by their imaginations.
The title perfectly captures the essence of filmmaking — creating dream worlds — that can now be made even larger at UT with the Vu screen technology.
