Title of entry: The Stroke Center—Dallas at TWU
About this entry: In 2022, the Stroke Center, located on the TWU Dallas campus, celebrated 30 years of servicing stroke patients and their families through research and rehabilitative care. To celebrate and promote the Center’s impact on the lives of stroke sufferers, a video profiling Patrick Prock was produced. Prock suffered a stroke in 2019 that left him literally speechless. He was diagnosed with global aphasia, one of the most severe types of aphasia, where multiple parts of the brain responsible for processing language are injured. Three years later, Prock is blossoming. While learning to communicate again at The Stroke Center - Dallas, he found his voice again. The 55-year old relishes being able to talk again and not just to family and friends, but to other stoke patients. While there is no cure for aphasia, over his almost three years of intensive treatment at the Center, his aphasia improved from severe to mild.
The Stroke Center does not charge patients for any services. Funding is provided by grants and contributions. Faculty and graduate students design and provide treatment plans tailored for each individual.
