Title of entry: Remembering Columbia: Ginger Kerrick Davis
About this entry: This photo was made to accompany a story for Evermore magazine as part of the “Remembering Columbia” issue. The intention for this photo is to illustrate Ginger Kerrick Davis, who was a capsule communicator for the International Space Station; her deep commitment to space exploration; and how every aspect of these missions and this disaster was ingrained into her existence. This photo is a double exposure which, in process, is exactly the photo’s concept and intention; the melding of two worlds into one. Ginger’s past, which included losing her father in a tragic event that she witnessed, molded her into a powerful woman who had to handle a devastating situation on display for the world. This image is Ginger Kerrick Davis at the observation room overlooking Mission Control. She is prominently lit and double exposed over the Mission Control screen that NASA uses to observe astronauts, coordinates and other important information.
