Title of entry: UT Tyler 2022 Homecoming: Fireworks Show
About this entry: UT Tyler’s 2022 Homecoming was one of the first major on-campus, student life and community events, post Covid-19 pandemic lockdown. As such, there was a desire to create a series of images that really captured the idea of “coming together as one.” This homecoming celebration was especially poignant, as UT Tyler's new brand direction had just been unveiled and implemented. It is also the first major celebration following the merging of UT Tyler with UT Health Science Center at Tyler as one institution. This was the perfect time for the University’s students, staff, faculty, administrators, alumni, and community to embrace their new future together as one.
These images show UT Tyler’s community gathered around Harvey Lake on the main UT Tyler Campus as a fireworks show takes place above the water. The photographer (Jonathan McSwain) used long-exposure techniques and ultra wide angle lenses to show the beautiful UT Tyler campus at night and to capture the students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members circling the water to watch the spectacular fireworks show together.
The photos have been used extensively throughout this last year. They have been used on the university’s website, on posters and flyers around campus, as a full page spread in UT Tyler's 2022-2023 viewbook, displayed during live events, and will even be used as a full page spread in the upcoming inaugural issue of UT Tyler Magazine. The photos truly represent the unity of UT Tyler’s amazing community as we pioneer UT Tyler’s future together.
