Title of entry: When climate change hits home
About this entry: The GLISA campaign aims to show America’s small towns how they can use research and resources from universities like U-M to develop on-the-ground solutions to protect their communities.
Instead of leading with statistics or policy, the campaign showed first-hand how GLISA is making a difference in Goshen Indiana by featuring the experiences of residents, business owners, government officials and others.
The campaign showed not only how university research can help places like Goshen, but how those places have the power to shape the future by partnering with organizations like GLISA.
The campaign consisted of a video, a feature-length article and a social media program. In addition to Michigan Engineering’s use of the campaign, Goshen has used it in its efforts to serve as an example to other communities that are dealing with the effects of climate change. The content was also used by The Great Lakes Integrated Sciences and Assessments (GLISA) in their communications.
The project was a collaboration between Gabriel Cherry, Senior news and content writer/Assistant editor of The Michigan Engineer magazine and Marcin Szczepanski, Lead Multimedia Storyteller and the University of Michigan College of Engineering.
