Title of entry: School of Medicine 50th Anniversary Event

About this entry: In 2022, the UMKC School of Medicine celebrated the 50th anniversary of the founding of the school and its innovative six-year program that accepts students right out of high school. UMKC's Division of Strategic Marketing and Communications (MCom) produced a full suite of materials for the school's 50th Golden Jubilee Anniversary Gala, held on June 4, 2022. The team designed a 50th anniversary logo that appeared on outdoor pole banners, on a 50th celebration website and on all 50th-related materials, including gala invitations, programs, table numbers, a step-and-repeat banner and directional signage.

MCom also worked on producing two original videos shown during the gala, featuring interviews with deans past and present, alumni, historical photos and video content that captured the past, present and future of the school, as well as student testimonials. The team also created five 8-feet-tall “decades display” pillars that celebrated the school through photos and facts. Each four-sided pillar displayed in the lobby of the Loews Hotel where the gala was held represented an individual decade of the school. MCom culled through 50 years of photos to identify, edit and design the pillars, which celebrated school milestones and the faculty and students from each decade of the school. The pillars presented a fun, interactive way for alumni, faculty past and present and guests to relive and experience the school’s 50-year history as a leader in innovative healthcare education.

Nearly 900 guests, including alumni and community supporters attended the event, which raised close to $600,000 for student scholarships.
