Title of entry: Community Engagement Video - Clio
About this entry: Clio is a website and mobile app that is used across the country to record and preserve history in digital format. There are currently close to 39,000 historical entries, including over 1,500 walking tours, virtual tours of museums, heritage trails and other curated experiences. This video tells the story of Clio and how its creator Dr. David Trowbridge, William T. Kemper associate research professor in digital and public humanities at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, uses it to help artistic, cultural and historical organizations in Kansas City -- and many more across the country – tell their stories. This video shares how UMKC graduate student Christina Loya used Clio to create a self-guided walking tour of the Latinx Heritage Trail, as well as features Dr. Trowbridge’s work with the Black Archives of Mid-America to create 360-degree tours of African American historic sites in the region. These tours and the others created, embed community voices and oral histories helping to preserve the impact of these populations on the culture, society and history of Mid-America.
