Title of entry: MIZZOU magazine - Tastier Tailgating
About this entry: The University of Missouri profiled alum Billy Parisi, a classically trained chef who uses his decades of experience –– including MU schooling in TV production –– to make how-to videos of recipes “so delectable that viewers may be tempted to eat their screens.” Parisi creates all the recipes himself — he estimates “close to a thousand” since 2009 — and shoots from a studio close to his home in Crown Point, Indiana. The magazine commissioned journalist Mara Reinstein to profile Parisi as a way of highlighting the versatile nature of a university education, and the creative ways that our alumni are harnessing their campus experiences for future success. Because Parisi does his own producing, shooting and editing, magazine editors suggested that Parisi consider making a few videos with recipes suited for tailgating Mizzou Tigers fans prepping for a big game. The resulting videos, “Making PERFECT St. Louis Style BBQ Pork Steaks” and “Ooey Gooey Butter Cake with EXTRA Goo,” illustrate the ways a project can not only make a here-and-now impact but remain relevant long after original publication date. Combined, the two cooking videos, which include a link to the magazine story, have gotten nearly 20,000 views in less than six months.
