Title of entry: Professor travels to Everest for world’s highest climate conference

About this entry: When Professor Joel Berger learned he was one of two U.S. professors to attend an exclusive academic conference at the base of Mount Everest, Colorado State University’s Strategic Communications team wanted to do something that broke the mold on traditional storytelling.

The team wanted to take readers along on the journey with him through an interactive map that traced his steps along the 134-mile trek.

Much like a mountaineering expedition, the CSU Strategic Communication team was in the thick of it, studying maps and training Berger on the techniques of outdoor photography and videography to help him capture moments that would be critical for the map as well as the complementary video that allowed Berger to explain his wildlife research as well as the trip.

When Berger returned, the team collaborated to produce an interactive map, video and accompanying story that hooked readers.
