Title of entry: Miner Athletics Portraits
About this entry: We wanted to unite all of our athletics’ social media and future marketing while making images that would have longevity. Our marketing team had just finished a brand “refresh” with our core university branding and introduced a set of new patterns that would be used in design. We were inspired by the new patterns and wanted a look that could also be interpreted as a rock wall inside of a mine.
We looked at several different materials and ways to create the effect as large and economically as possible. We found interior design 3D wall panels that are made of PVC that resembled one of our patterns when put together. From that point, we were able to build a system of four interlocking wall panels using plywood and gate latches. The PVC pieces were glued to each and then painted.
To extend the life of the project and get more use from it, the wall system was constructed in a way that it can be put together in two-, three-, or four-panel configurations, so it can be set up in different-sized spaces for future projects, like recruitment visit photos, and be transported more easily.
We were able to successfully create images that were unique to each program and team, highlighting different athletes, while creating one distinctive look and feel for Missouri S&T Miners athletics.
