Title of entry: Cooking with cannabis

About this entry: A decade after cannabis was legalized in Colorado, new career opportunities have emerged and some higher ed institutions, including MSU Denver, have jumped on board to prepare interested students for those jobs. The University School of Hospitality offers Cannabis 101, a class focused on cooking with CBD, the non-psychoactive component of cannabis that offers health benefits. The story was shot and edited by an in-house producer who wanted to give viewers a sense of what new career opportunities exist and how skills to succeed in them are being taught in the classroom. Our goal with this video, published on MSU Denver’s online newsroom, was to attract media attention that could help convey the university’s commitment to innovative programs and workforce development. The video was also produced to reach prospective students, primarily through our social media channels. It was viewed more than 6,600 times on Instagram. More importantly, the video inspired at least five earned-media placements in trade publications and the Denver media market.
