The Midwest is often listed as a roadblock for prospective students considering Washington University in St. Louis. While we are located in a major city, the Midwest can carry negative connotations with younger audiences in regard to the opportunities, culture and safety of the St. Louis region.
Our how:
To dispel this narrative and show that St. Louis is more than midwest stereotypes and stories making national headlines, WashU’s social media developed the #MeetMeInStLouie campaign to introduce prospective and current students to places and spaces that make St. Louis, St. Louis.
Tapping into Instagram’s carousel feature, we combined photography, facts and history connected to places and spaces to educate unfamiliar audiences about the city WashU takes pride in calling home.
The impact
As you will see, the campaign has been a big success amongst our audience as well are our local community, who are excited to have Washington University showcase and share pride in our city.
