Description

Best of CASE District VII Award

Institution: University of California, Davis

Title of entry: Horse Report

About this entry: The Horse Report is the outreach publication for the UC Davis Center for Equine Health, a unit of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. The target readership is sport horse enthusiasts, with an emphasis on owners, breeders, and our donors.
The publication aims to inform the target readership about advances in equine veterinary care that will benefit their horses’ health, performance, and overall welfare. It seeks to empower owners and caretakers by providing useful, easily accessible resources to take a proactive approach to their horses’ health and work with their veterinarians to address concerns before they become chronic issues or emergencies. Each issue highlights the innovative research and advanced clinical care available at UC Davis. Together, these issues provide a series of guides on essential topics for all equestrians, regardless of breed or discipline.
Four issues are published annually, one electronic “year in review” issue that highlights notable advances and three themed issues that are distributed in print and available online. Links to our health topics database, news stories, and veterinary services within the school provide additional content for readers that want to further explore a featured topic. The key to providing the most accurate and timely information to our readership is close collaboration with the dedicated veterinary experts in the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
Articles and associated resources are regularly reprinted by breed association publications, magazines in the U.S. and Canada, local equine and veterinary organizations, and shared on social media.
