Title of entry: UCSF New Hospital at Parnassus Heights Email Advocacy
About this entry: To meet the rapidly evolving healthcare needs of the Bay Area and meet California’s upcoming seismic retrofit deadline for acute care hospitals, UCSF must build a new, state-of-the-art hospital co-located with our four professional schools at the Parnassus Heights campus to support our public mission of advancing health worldwide through preeminent biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care.
What distinguishes UCSF is our bench-to-bedside training as one of the country's top academic medical centers. The science of health care has advanced dramatically, and today’s cutting-edge research and care delivery require specialized facilities. The researchers, care providers, faculty and learners at UCSF have made numerous innovative contributions to medicine over the years, but the limitations of our current infrastructure threaten to limit progress.
Construction of UCSF’s new hospital required approval by the University of California Board of Regents who establish system-wide policy, make decisions regarding student tuition and admittance policies, and oversee all land use and long-range planning.
To secure UC Regents approval, the UCSF Community & Government Relations team launched an email advocacy campaign empowering students, staff, alumni, and other UCSF supporters to encourage the Regents to approve UCSF’s new hospital at Parnassus Heights.
The campaign delivered over 156 emails to the Regents, contributing to the ultimate approval of the new hospital.
