Institution: Stanford University
Title of entry: Business and Government: Power and Engagement in the 21st-Century
About this entry: We focused on a single course, “Business and Government: Power and Engagement in the 21st-Century World,” creating content across multiple formats and platforms, in order to reach as many audiences as possible (alumni, prospective students, and people who want to learn from Stanford GSB).
This new course was particularly compelling: “Business and Government” is taught by two faculty members with very different perspectives, politics, teaching styles, and approaches to issues. Their goal was to provide students with frameworks for a deeper understanding of our economic and political issues that often aren’t covered in business school.
Telling the story of this timely course felt right for us as our communications objectives include sharing the GSB’s academic experience, as well as the ways in which our faculty are preparing future leaders to navigate contemporary challenges. For prospective students, we want to bring our faculty to life and illuminate the courses they teach. For alumni, we especially want to showcase our efforts to help students confidently navigate the intersections of business, government, and society.
The complete storytelling package includes an illustrated magazine feature, a 5-minute animated video of teaching takeaways, a web version of the magazine story that also includes the video as well as other related stories, and a short video shot in the classroom and shared across social media.
This content resonated with audiences on all platforms, and was also used by our alumni relations team as part of their outreach efforts.
