Title of entry: College Highlights

About this entry: College Highlights is a marketing piece aimed at prospective undergraduate and graduate students of OSU’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences. We conceived of the piece by brainstorming a list of the types of information this audience would need or want: What are the basic statistics that describe the college? What makes us special? How does our science serve the world? What would it be like to be a student in the college, and what kinds of work do our alums do?
The piece includes basic statistics about the college (e.g., numbers of students and faculty, faculty numbers and accolades, etc.), short blurbs about some of the great work of our scientists, profiles of a diverse set of students, and information about prominent alums and giving. It was used in student recruitment activities and as a leave-behind at several engagement events, from outreach at the local farmer’s market to an event aboard our retiring research vessel for alums and supporters. Its largest distribution was via college student services personnel, who report that the piece was very popular at recruitment events aimed at prospective students and their families.
