Title of entry: Indigenous History Month Campaign
About this entry: Montreal-based Concordia University marked Canada's National Indigenous History Month in June 2023 with a multifaceted communications campaign developed under the leadership of the Office of Indigenous Directions, University Communications Services (UCS) and University Advancement (UA).
Our joint campaign aimed to increase affinity and a sense of belonging among an inspiring and diverse group of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Concordians. It was also an opportunity for Concordia's 254,000 alumni, 50,000 students, and 7,000 faculty and staff to learn from its Indigenous community members. The campaign, which included six video interviews, a landing page, a web story, email and social media, also helped to amplify many Indigenous-led initiatives that were underway.
Our second objective was to showcase our welcoming and diverse community through representation. As part of our university’s mission, we aim to welcome more prospective students from Indigenous communities.
Finally, we sought to foster a sense of pride among our extended community by promoting accomplished Concordians and providing opportunities to learn more about Indigenous cultures and their history in Canada.
