Description

Best of CASE District III Award

Institution: North Carolina State University

Title of entry: Narrative Thread

About this entry: Through a blend of interview, animations and cinematic b-roll footage, we crafted a documentary-style profile video of Kate Nartker, assistant professor in Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management within the Wilson College of Textiles. This piece was supplemental to a written profile published in NC State magazine and served to better visualize and contextualize her innovative research in the world of textiles.

Textiles are typically thought of in the traditional sense, as a bed covering or clothing garment or something with a practical use. By creating woven tapestries that resemble film strips, photographing them, then turning those photos into animations, Nartker is showing a whole different side to textiles and the boundary-pusing research within the medium happening on NC State’s campus.

The video was filmed in Narkter’s research space in the Wilson College of Textiles. We created the full-length horizontal video that was posted on Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube. We also created a shorter, 1:1 aspect ratio version for our Instagram feed and a one-minute vertical trailer of only b-roll for Instagram Stories. The full-length video is embedded in the webpage of the magazine story.
