About this entry: This story demonstrates the unexpected journey of a UND graduate. We follow Lauren Vad Smith from Grand Forks, N.D., to a South African Animal Rescue and Sanctuary. The article takes readers on her journey, learning about Lauren's pull to save lions and realizing that caring for animals in need and living in rustic conditions is her life calling.
