Title of entry: In Good Company West River

About this entry: After moving to western South Dakota, I was hoping to meet UND alumni in the area. I jumped at the chance to write about two UND standout healthcare providers, both UND alums now serving patients (including me) at a South Dakota critical access hospital and healthcare facility. What’s more, prenatal care can be more complex in rural settings. I used my pre- and post-natal healthcare experience with these professionals to highlight the nuances of rural health and the creativity and partnership needed to provide excellent care to their patients.

The general impact was more on our writing and editorial magazine team. We had recently talked about diversifying ways we write stories in our publication. Columns haven’t been a regular part of our UND Alumni Magazine, so this helped us think outside of our traditional box and capitalize on a different way to present information to our readers.

Philip Health Services providers said they got calls and emails from former classmates and colleagues across the nation with connections to UND that they enjoyed and appreciated the piece.
