Best of CASE District VI Award
Institution: University of Colorado Boulder
Title of entry: Voices Magazine
About this entry: This was a challenging year for our School of Education, following several heavy years for alumni-educators stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, societal injustices, and increasing political pressure on educators. Consequently, this issue of Voices, the University of Colorado Boulder School of Education’s annual magazine for alumni and friends, featured wellbeing and some of the inspiring ways CU Boulder leaders are centering healing and wellness in their work nationwide and in Colorado.
Voices is designed to inform, engage, and involve readers by providing beautifully designed and topical content. The content showcases work representative of our commitments to democracy, diversity, equity, and justice.
From the cover story detailing the potential of a newer concept, “healing justice,” and its longstanding roots (Page 8) to a beautiful mix-media art and storytelling project documenting the beloved belongings and lives of migrants (Page 30) and trailblazing students and alumni leading policy and curriculum changes for improved well-being for students and educators (Pages 6, 14 and 24), this issue is designed to expand readers’ thinking. We also offer ways readers can apply what they are reading about to their work through links to web resources, free curriculum, inspirational student work, a video, and more.
We’ve measured success through reader feedback/submitted ideas, trackable URLs, very few unsubscribes (typically reflecting status or address changes), and donor-envelope response, and we are proud of the project’s lean use of resources.
The result is a timely, aesthetically pleasing publication that is relevant to readers’ lives as educators, researchers, policymakers, and activists.
