Title of entry: Move-In Dad
About this entry: To welcome new and returning students and their families, we created a short video depicting the quintessential fatherly traits frequently displayed during move-in. In the video, we followed our “move-in dad,” Tobey Brockman as he moved his “daughter,” Resident Assistant Holly Robinson, into the dorms for her freshman year of college. Throughout the video, Tobey showcases stereotypical but endearing mannerisms dads tend to act out when moving their kid into the dorms, like reflecting on his years at his alma mater, taking photos and being the ultimate Husker sports fanatic.
The impact of this piece was widespread, reaching each of our various audiences across university social platforms. Our student audience connected to the humor while parents and alumni audiences resonated with the video based on their own personal experiences dropping kids off at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This connection was evident in comments like, “Ok that even made me teary eyed! My son will be a senior there this year,” “So good and made this #Huskermom tear up,” “My daughter is 6 and the end already got me. Please have therapists ready in 12 years " and “All.The.Feels!”
