Title of entry: Generations Unite: UCI School of Humanities Alumni Series
About this entry: The UC Irvine School of Humanities Alumni Profiles Series is an ongoing monthly series that highlights the career trajectories and life experiences of School of Humanities alumni. First launched in late Spring 2023, the largely student-written series profiles alumni in 1,000-word articles for inclusion in the School’s monthly newsletter and on social media platforms. It was created to address the need for stronger and more consistent alumni engagement, including alumni network development, and help buttress a public-facing conversation about career outcomes for humanities students. In this way, it’s part of a larger communications strategy focused on broadening the narrative around professional outcomes for humanities majors and PhDs. Developed as part of a student mentoring program, the series employs current students as part of a professional communications mentoring program.
The series, which has been running for less than a year, has already helped increase readership of the School’s newsletter and resulted in significant alumni engagement. It has been a valuable tool for promoting connection across the many departments, as departments reshare the profiles with their respective communities.
