Title of entry: Money Matters
About this entry: The fall/winter 2023 issue of our alumni magazine, SF State Magazine, was devoted to the environment. Given the urgency of climate change and resulting demand for training in a variety of careers, San Francisco State University has expanded curriculum across curriculum. For the center spread of the magazine, Editor Steve Hockensmith assigned a story to Matt Itelson on sustainable investing, a topic with vital implications for the future of the planet. It is also a complex financial topic that the average person is less likely to understand.
Itelson interviewed alumni, faculty experts and a student to not only provide an overall understanding of the sustainable investing space, but also a diversity of perspectives. The student is president of SF State’s Sustainable Investment Club, and he serves as a spirited voice for gaining practical experience in investment through the University. Faculty experts and alumni in the industry discuss trends as well as controversies. Altogether, the story positions SF State as an innovative, active institution in the area of sustainable investing.
This story reached more than 80,000 alumni, supporters and community leaders
through SF State Magazine (print and online editions).
