Title of entry: Baseball Trading Cards

About this entry: Imagine you’re a 17-year old athlete. A middle schooler walks up to you and asks you to sign a card. That card has your photo on it, detailing your strengths as a player, your team, and your number.

Trading cards or collectible cards was our way of making our student-athletes feel special...not just SAS athletes, but athletes from the five other schools that came to SAS to play their inter-school tournaments as part of IASAS.

IASAS is a group of six schools whose students compete in athletics, arts, music, etc. Schools take turns to host certain sports and events and students fly out to those destinations. Last year, SAS hosted baseball. To welcome our student-athletes, we created baseball cards for every athlete from every school and presented a mixed pack to each.

What this did was encourage students from different schools to engage with each other and collect their team’s cards. It also worked a memento from their time playing at IASAS. Our elementary and middle school spectators found the athletes they looked up to and got them to sign their cards! This was the moment of delight they will not forget so easily! This one moment of delight elevated the student IASAS experience into something they will remember for a lifetime.
