Title of entry: Service Now montage video
About this entry: Business Services at the University of Melbourne were concerned that the academic and professional staff community weren’t accessing the essential services they offered. A team led by Client Services Director, Chris van der Weyden, set out to rectify this problem with an entertaining PSA campaign.
They reached out to Video and Media within Learning Environments at the University to help them transform dry content into attention-grabbing videos that would raise awareness of the catch-all 40888 number. The goal was for all staff to be aware that they have a clear point of contact when they face common technical hurdles in everyday work life.
Senior video producer Sascha White suggested using comedy to help make the common scenarios more memorable. Working with a comedian, he came up with three set-ups that had distinctive and entertaining visual styles. He also brought in a musician to compose a jingle that had the potential to become an earworm.
The Video and Media team pitched their concepts to Business Services and they loved it. The result was a suite of nine ‘Service Now’ videos, plus a bonus montage video for promotion, which has been submitted for this category.
This video has been distributed on the University’s Staff Hub, Business Services web pages and via other internal channels, as well as faculty networks. The feedback from the University community has been overwhelmingly positive, with the common observation that the video stands out because it is funny and different to the standard dry fare of internal communications.
