Title of entry: Art and Science of Medicine Festival (ASMF)
About this entry: The Art and Science of Medicine Festival (ASMF) made history by taking innovative medical education and transformative research to Singapore's heartlands for the first time, anchoring itself in Toa Payoh's historic town. Positioned next to a bustling transport hub and busy shopping mall, the festival attracted over 5000 attendees, fostering community engagement and providing insights into healthcare.
Organised by NTU Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, the festival featured interactive booths offering hands-on experiences in ultrasound, medical simulation, human anatomy, ageing simulation, virtual reality, and elderly fitness focusing on respiratory health. Research booths showcased breakthroughs in infection and immunity, metabolic health and nutrition, population health, skin diseases and wound repair, data science, and neuroscience and mental health.
A highlight was the unprecedented public display of organoids, miniaturised 3D versions of organs, captivating audiences with scientific marvel. Talks and workshops on diabetes prevention and mindfulness enriched attendees with practical knowledge.
The festival also offered health screenings and education tailored for the elderly, promoting proactive health management. The "HeArt of Medicine" exhibition showcased humanities in medicine, featuring works by students and healthcare partners, emphasising the fusion of art and science in healthcare.
Executed within a short timeframe of four months, the ASMF emphasised the importance of engaging and presenting medical education and research in an accessible manner, achieving its goal of reaching out to the community and fostering understanding and appreciation for the art and science of medicine.
