Institution: Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland
Title of entry: RCSI MyHealth Lecture Series
About this entry: Founded as the national training body for surgery in Ireland in 1784, today RCSI is a world-leading international health sciences university. We are ranked first in the world for impact in global health and well-being (UN SDG 3) in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings 2023.
As Ireland’s only dedicated health sciences university, RCSI is in a unique position to help improve the health of the nation, in alignment with the Irish government’s Healthy Ireland strategy.
Our academics, researchers and clinicians recognise their responsibility to share their knowledge and discoveries to empower people with information that leads them to better health.
That commitment is supported at institutional level: the first pillar of the university’s Strategic Plan 2023 - 2027 focuses on Health and Societal Wellbeing.
Under that pillar and reflecting our university-wide commitment to UN SDG 3, RCSI MyHealth forms a central part of the University’s goal of enhancing human health by sharing our expert’s knowledge with our targeted constituency: the public.
RCSI MyHealth has evolved considerably since it was established a decade ago. What began as an in-person lecture series for a local audience is now a digital offering in the form of a panel discussion, with episodes available as videos and podcasts which are reaching a large national and international audience.
It is now the university’s flagship public engagement initiative, encouraging dialogue about how to live long and healthy lives and maximising the intervention of scientific research and innovation to influence policy and improve outcomes.
