Title of entry: RIT University Magazine
About this entry: Although technology is in our name, RIT is so much more than a tech school. We work hard in our University Magazine to showcase the arts, creativity, and innovation along with technology, which is what distinguishes us from other universities.
Some examples from this contest period:
• Our story on “AI at RIT” featured unique imagery created by combining portrait photography, an area that RIT photography graduates excel in, with AI-generated elements.
• Our “RIT Zine Scene” feature draws attention to the vibrant creative communities on campus. The article underscores RIT's dedication to integrative, interdisciplinary education by showing that our students and alumni don't need to choose between a "left brain" or "right brain" category. They can be a biomedical engineer and a poet, or a physicist and an artist, without abandoning either interest. (This story also included a zine you could tear out and make yourself.)
• The mix of stories in all our magazines showcase RIT’s diversity. “Squishing the Barriers of Physics” highlights how four diverse women are opening soft matter physics to a new generation of scholars. “Personal experiences inspire RIT’s first doctoral candidates” features our first three deaf students getting Ph.D.s. (RIT is home to the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.)
The result has been a magazine that better represents RIT’s brand of technology, the arts, and design and is more engaging.
