About this entry: Gettysburg College launched its new strategic direction, Living Our Promise, in February 2023. Our strategic planning process began in October 2020 in parallel with the College’s distinction work—an initiative that produced an articulation of our institutional promise to students: A Consequential Education.
This articulation underscores that what makes a Gettysburg College education truly consequential is our people, our place, and our approach. The institution’s new strategic direction is designed to elevate our approach to education (The Gettysburg Approach) for a new generation of Gettysburgians by ensuring every student graduates with 1) a breadth and depth of knowledge through our rigorous liberal arts and sciences education and 2) the enduring skills most valued by employers. These two anchors are reinforced through the introduction of Guided Pathways and Personal Advising Teams.
Living Our Promise is the most expansive, interconnected, and ambitious strategic plan Gettysburg College has ever developed. The challenge for our Communications & Marketing team in creating this flagship brochure was to capture the enormity of the plan and boil it down to a design and overarching message that was elegant, informative, and inspiring.
The C&M team achieved its goal, with the piece being so well received by faculty, staff, and alumni that College Advancement ultimately chose to adopt the brochure as their official case statement for major giving prospects. In addition, the brochure was the key takeaway for 200 top donors at our Summit on the Future, an event which inspired the College’ largest commitment by a living donor ($10 million).
