Title of entry: Alien Minds, Immaculate Bullshit, Outstanding Questions
About this entry: For our cover story “Alien Minds, Immaculate Bullshit, Outstanding Questions,” illustrator Chris Gash interprets the challenges and opportunities that ChatGPT technology poses for educational institutions.
“Thinker” and “Monkeys” play on well-known images and concepts to show that the benefits of this technology may evolve and improve after many mistakes. “Pencil” specifically portrays many useless versions of pencil design before improving the results with better prompts from the human using the program. “Groucho” addresses how the algorithm’s failure to be human can result in a comedy of errors, while at the same time often reflects a human eagerness to please (at the expense of the truth). “Bull” also depicts a tendency to produce clichéd metaphors without detecting falsities.
