Title of entry: King's College Cambridge Wildflower Meadows
About this entry: The University of Cambridge's social media team wanted to refresh and improve its photography offering across its social media channels, and give audiences of more than 6.5 million people more of an insight into the unique traditions, heritage and people that make the University such a special place with over 800 years of history.
Using our in-house Photography and Video Manager, Lloyd Mann, we worked with the team at King's College, Cambridge, to capture images of the King's College wildflower meadow that had bloomed all summer being mowed by two shire horses and a traditional plough, as it would have been done centuries ago.
Watching the two horses and traditional plough at work is not only a beautiful sight; there's also environmental reasons why they are used. The horses have a far lower impact on soil compaction and the flora of the meadow, compared to the use of a modern tractor.
The photography included landscape images showing the beautiful and iconic facade of King's College chapel, as well as close ups of the brass and leather work on the horses' harnesses, and 360 degree photos/video using a 360 camera attached to the plough.
Audiences of students, staff and alumni all engaged positively with the post - and it was in our top 3 our most-liked posts of summer 2024 across all channels.
