Title of entry: Change of Heart: A Cover that Moves
About this entry: Impact reaches a diverse audience of Weill Cornell Medical College and Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences alumni, donors, faculty, students and members of the public. With a print circulation of 16,000 and additional reach through the magazine website, www.impact.weill.cornell.edu, and Weill Cornell Medicine's social media platforms, Impact's goal is to reinforce and enhance the reputation of Weill Cornell Medicine.
Stories are selected for Impact in part to advance the institution's philanthropic goals, and both cardiology and women's health are key priority areas of its ongoing, $1.5 billion We're Changing Medicine campaign to support the institution's missions to care, discover and teach. Consequently, the Fall 2024 issue of Impact highlighted how Weill Cornell Medicine physicians are improving cardiac care for women and striving to close gender disparities in heart health and treatment outcomes.
For the magazine cover, we were challenged with visually representing the feminine aspects of heart health when the organ itself is not gender specific. With the recommendation and guidance from Impact design agency Skelton Sprouls, our solution was to work with artist Kristen Meyer, who utilizes cut paper and floral elements, to create a vibrant and feminine depiction of a flourishing, complex heart. This cover celebrates women’s health and positions Weill Cornell Medicine at the forefront of women’s cardiac care.
