About this entry: Our goals are to entertain, educate, and connect. Entertainment has to be our first priority or we lose our readers.

Whereas the magazine’s departments share happenings involving Miami University, I’m proud to say the majority of our features could run in any general interest magazine. One brother donated a kidney and another brother part of his liver to their father to save his life. That's fodder for People magazine. They just happen to be Miamians. Wondering about the popularity of pickleball among college students? Our alumni are major players in the sport's growth. Never heard of speed puzzling? Two Miami classmates and best friends can piece that together for you.

Our departments share news about changes on campus, professors' and students' research that will impact our future, and snippets of our school's history, an especially beloved section, according to our surveys.

In addition to surveys, MIAMIAN’s impact is measured in the 30+ alumni authors asking to be included in every issue, class note submissions that could fill far more pages than we have, and nearly three pages of letters to the editors, including letters from people further explaining organ donation or naming another alumnus involved in pickleball.

We vary story lengths, content subjects, and tone, recognizing readers' various interests.
