Description

Best of CASE District VI Award

Institution: Missouri University of Science & Technology

Title of entry: OGS Weekend: Meet us in St. Louis

About this entry: The Order of the Golden Shillelagh (OGS) plays a vital role in advancing the university’s mission and enriching the student experience. For almost five decades, Missouri S&T donors who are members of OGS have gathered for what’s known as “OGS Weekend.” The event brings OGS members together in a fun, casual environment while strengthening the bond between Missouri S&T and its oldest, largest group of donors. The 2024 OGS Weekend, “Meet Us in St. Louis,” maximized opportunities to socialize with old friends and new acquaintances, experience unique attractions, learn what’s new at Missouri S&T directly from university leaders, and celebrate both the philanthropic spirit and the impact of OGS. Highlights included a welcome reception with local legendary frozen custard, a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game viewed from a private suite and concluded with a dinner and recognition ceremony. With the iconic Chase Park Plaza hotel as home base, attendees selected from a list of uniquely St. Louis excursions, including golf in Forest Park, a tour of the National Blues Museum, a VIP Tour of Anheuser-Bush Brewery led by three S&T alumni, a visit to the Gateway Arch, and a behind-the-scenes look at the Fabulous Fox and a matinee performance of “MJ.” A formal dinner and recognition ceremony where each new member received a custom engraved Shillelagh walking stick and lapel pins concluded the weekend, spotlighting a near record-breaking 60 new members and recognizing 75 advancing members whose sustained support moved them into new levels of giving, known as claghns.
