About this entry: CU Boulder created the College of Media, Communication and Information to bring disciplines like journalism, media studies and technology together, to understand how these areas overlap and interact in the world.

The presidential election of 2024 was a chance to see that intersection in real time. Suddenly, generative A.I., social media, marketing, communication, journalism, deepfakes, cheapfakes and more were colliding, posing challenges to traditional media gatekeepers and consumers alike. What was real? What wasn’t?

We leaned on faculty and alumni to show our community what to look for, and how we might reimagine a new landscape that prized truth and upheld democratic values, whether on the battlefields of Ukraine or in the polls.
