Title of entry: Student Journey Video for San José State University

About this entry: During the summer of 2024, we created the Student Journey Video to capture what it truly means and feels to experience a day in the life of a student at San José State University (SJSU).

We wanted to capture the dynamic energy, innovation and creativity that exists across SJSU’s vibrant campus community. The audience for this video project is both prospective and current students, along with the donors who have so generously made financial contributions to San José State over the years.

For current students, we hoped this video would instill a sense of pride for what it means to truly be a Spartan; and for prospective students, we hoped that this video might inspire them to become a Spartan in the future. As for the donor audience, we wanted them to see, through this video, that their donations have made a lasting impact on our students.

Although this video is just over one minute long, it took a lot of time, care and energy to produce. We spent months organizing the locations; envisioning the script and camera movement; and finding the right student actors to be in front of the camera.

As for the video’s impact, it has been felt by various students, staff and donors, who have all expressed that it made them really excited to be a part of SJSU. The video is on our website, to really give students a sense of what SJSU embodies. It was also played most recently at our December Commencement ceremonies.
