About this entry: In July 2024, we launched the new website for the UCSF Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care. Our department, with around 800 employees, embarked on a strategic website redesign to enhance faculty, trainee and staff recruitment. We aimed to amplify our reputation, emphasize our supportive culture, and highlight our leadership in the field. The new website focuses on pragmatic details for prospective trainees, increases the visibility of our research discoveries, guides prospective patients through the anesthesia experience, and enhances online development efforts.
Our target audience includes prospective faculty, residents, staff, researchers, patients, internal employees, and financial donors. Over the course of a year, we migrated content from our former Drupal 7 site to Drupal 10, modernizing the platform and integrating competitive analysis insights. We optimized internal and clinical resources, moving the latter to a third-party application for better accessibility. The redesign led to a significant uptick in physician interest and recruitment, and our Siteimprove scores for digital accessibility soared. We now boast an accessibility score of 91.5, surpassing the industry benchmark of 86.5 and the UCSF average of 85.9. Our interactive timeline and enhanced searchability have also garnered praise, setting a new standard within our institution and beyond.
