Title of entry: Howard Magazine: Truth and Service Letter from the President
About this entry: After a publication hiatus during which Howard Magazine was completely overhauled, the first issue of the newly redesigned publication needed a strong message from the president of the University. During a tumultuous time in our society, in the midst of a pandemic and in the aftermath of a contentious and still-fraught political election, Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick sought to unite the Howard community around the foundational principles of the institution: “truth and service.” In an age where truth may differ from one person to the next and the specter of selfishness haunts the idea of service, Dr. Frederick reinforces the purpose that drives the Howard community’s pursuit of these ideals. He highlights examples of how the University has elevated the truth and stepped up to serve minority communities during the pandemic. And he concludes by reinforcing the mission of the University and the purpose that has compelled so many to come to Howard and call its campus home.
