Title of entry: Suffolk Law Alumni Magazine (Winter 2023 issue)
About this entry: Several years ago, Suffolk Law’s leaders laid out a long-term goal of widely sharing the school’s role as a practical innovator. The Winter 2023 magazine, The “Innovation Issue,” offers 17 stories about the school’s problem-solvers, including mostly short and a few medium-length stories. Very busy readers get a quick sense of the school’s cutting-edge approach to deep-rooted challenges, like a lack of legal representation for moderate-income people (p. 23, 26), alleged war crimes in Ukraine (p. 31), and the eviction crisis (p. 38).
The magazine has focused on practical innovation for several years, and that has helped Suffolk Law become known as an innovation leader, including among reporters who receive magazine stories as part of media pitches made by the alumni magazine’s editor. For example, magazine stories on mobile court form apps for pro se litigants and housing discrimination response were covered by Telemundo, NPR, the Chronicle of Higher Education, the New York Times, Bloomberg, and the Boston Globe. The story about Immigration Clinic student attorney Andrea Marcano (p. 16) was covered in National Jurist and Above the Law.
This and earlier issues have positioned the law school for national innovation honors, for example, the school’s designation as a Bloomberg Top Law School Innovator in 2023 and 2024.
