About this entry: Why? For the readers! We remind them with each carefully-curated issue that they are part of a fun, inspirational, curiosity-satisfying club of Blue Bloods — aka UConn Nation. We engage our incredibly diverse group of alums, who have earned everything from 2-year degrees in agriculture to 8-plus-year doctorates in astrophysics or neurosurgery, by finding the UConn stories that most demand to be shared. We strive to tell each of those stories in the most compelling and unique way possible — endlessly seeking varied editorial voices, perspectives, and styles. We then pair each one with purposeful artwork and display type that further informs, enlightens, and satisfies reader curiosity. It always comes back to the reader. We ask ourselves — no matter what degree they hold or how long ago they received it, where they come from or live now — will the reader come away amused, enlightened, and satisfied.
Our method includes carefully choosing the most impactful feature mix for each issue, along with a mix of departments selected from dozens of existing rotating templates with new ones added often to ensure we are always redesigning, never getting stale.
UConn Nation tells us that this incarnation of the magazine, as represented by these two issues, hits that mark resoundingly. They call, email, write, and post — engaging with us and one another. They even, without the ask, send donations to UConn Foundation, noting their satisfaction with our magazine and how it makes them even prouder to Bleed Blue.
