Title of entry: UConn Magazine – Basketball Capital Winning Moment

About this entry: A great photograph captures a moment — a UConn’s fifth men’s basketball title in under 25 years was a big moment. We weren’t ranked #1 then. We had lost the Big East tournament. But the historic run to the championship reminded everyone that UConn is back in the blue-blood-program conversation, and the excitement of players, coaches, and fans was palpable. UConn Athletics Staff Photographer Austin Bigoney captured many moments of the season and the win and post-win celebration, but this one of guard Andre Jackson Jr., used to open the UConn Magazine cover feature on the title, stands out. The cameras and boom mics, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont decked out in UConn gear with his hands on his hips, important people milling about, the size of the arena, the Jumbotrons – and Jackson Jr.’s jubilant expression captured from below, looking up his nose and at all his teeth — certainly bring the viewer right into this moment. This moment of pure exaltation.
